De la misma manera, Pieter Hugo, en uno de sus viajes por África occidental se sintió atraído por esa mezcla de ficción y surrealismo. Allí mismo en sus escenarios, con actores, asistentes y maquilladores engendró esta realidad verosímil. Las impresionantes imágenes son claramente surrealistas, pero podrían ser reales en su conjunto ya que forman parte de la cultura simbólica local.
