James Macari, born in Dallas, Texas in 1974, studied photography at the University of Oklahoma, then quickly moved to New York to work under photographers Richard Avedon and Patrick Demarchelier. Both masters of contemporary photography, during these apprenticeships James forged his perfection of light and technique. 
Through his easy-going, provoking, humorous demeanor, James is known for his connection between camera and model, which gives his work a feeling of intimacy and a closeness to its subject. James’ photographs have been featured inGerman Vogue, Russian Vogue, Spanish Vogue, GQ, The New York Times Sunday Magazine, Details, I.D., and V Magazine.

After getting a degree in graphic design, I developed an aesthetic eye and decided to become a photographer. My work is a mixture of portrait, fashion, reportage and constantly growing in other disciplines. 
I like to think photography affords me a closeness to the present in an unusual way. What i adore mostly about being a photographer is when i can create a mood of nostalgia, romanticism, something from the "good old days".
